Sangeet Vidya Niketan, New Delhi, founded by Odissi dancer Madhur Gupta in 2020, is thrilled to announce the forthcoming launch of “Courting Hindustan: The Consuming Passions of Iconic Women Performers of India”.
Set against the backdrop of India’s rich cultural heritage, the event is scheduled to take place on the 25th of August at the Shri Ram Centre in Mandi House. The event will commence at 6:00 pm IST, promising an evening of cultural resonance and artistic celebration.
Sangeet Vidya Niketan, under the guidance of Madhur Gupta, endeavours to integrate the art of Indian classical dance and music into the very fabric of daily existence. Since its establishment,the institution has remained committed to imparting arts education to the youth and fostering the propagation of Indian culture through the captivating mediums of classical dance and music.
The evening’s program will be inaugurated with a mesmerizing performance by the Children of Salaam Balak Trust, setting the stage for an immersive journey into the world of artistic resilience and creativity.
Following this, the spotlight will shine on two exclusive premieres. Madhur Gupta will present “Usha Sukatm” in the exquisite Odissi style, shedding light on ancient temple rituals that served as conduits to connect with the divine. This will be followed by “Baat Phoolon Ki,” a captivating Kathak performance by Shivani Varma, offering a glimpse into the courtly traditions that enthralled the nobility.
Distinguished luminaries including Sanjoy Roy, the illustrious Founder of Jaipur Literature Festival; Ambassador Pavan Varma; Retired IAS officer Shri Ashok Vajpeyi; Shri Sunit Tandon, Director of India Habitat Centre; and the esteemed Guru Sharon Lowen, will grace the occasion as they officiate the book launch. The ceremonial inauguration will be succeeded by a stimulating panel discussion, deftly moderated by Eric Chopra.
